Batten Disease
The Batten Disease topic includes research on the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of Batten disease: a group of rare, inherited neurodegenerative disorders that typically begin in childhood. Also called neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis, these disorders affect how cells in the brain process waste, causing the brain to degenerate (stop working) over time. There are 14 known types of Batten disease, ranging from CLN1 to CLN14 disease. People with Batten disease may experience progressive vision loss, seizures, dementia, loss of movement, and a shortened lifespan.
