Heart Disease
The Heart Disease topic (which includes coronary heart disease) focuses on the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases and conditions that affect the heart and the heart’s coronary arteries.
Heart and vascular (or cardiovascular) diseases include conditions such as arrhythmias, coronary heart disease, heart attack, high blood pressure, vascular dementia, and stroke.
Coronary heart disease occurs when the arteries narrow and cannot deliver enough oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle because of a buildup of fatty deposits called plaque. Heart disease remains a leading cause of death in the United States.
