Inflammatory Bowel Disease
The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) category includes research on the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases, which are disorders that cause chronic inflammation of the digestive tract.
IBD occurs when the body’s natural defense system mistakenly attacks healthy bowel cells. This causes inflammation (swelling) and other damage that does not go away on its own. The most common types of this chronic condition are ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
