The Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence topic includes research on the development and use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in biomedical research. It includes research on natural language processing, automated and semi-automated systems, and adaptive robotics.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning are expected to be transformational technologies that will augment current ability to diagnose illnesses, injuries, and other medical conditions and to recommend treatments. The technologies will include software, tools, neural networks, and biomedical image and signal processing, among other things, as well as approaches that can promulgate interoperability among all of them.
