Skin Cancer
The Skin Cancer topic includes research on the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancers that originate in the tissue of the skin.
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer. The main types of skin cancer are squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Melanoma is much less common than the other types of skin cancer but much more likely to invade nearby tissue and spread to other parts of the body. Most deaths from skin cancer are caused by melanoma. Much progress has been made in treating people with melanoma that has spread in their bodies (metastatic melanoma). Yet many people still don't benefit from the newest drugs, and others may relapse after initially successful treatment.
