Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE)

The Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE) topic includes research on the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, also called prion diseases. The topic also includes research on prion biology.

TSEs are a group of rare degenerative brain disorders characterized by tiny holes that give the brain a "spongy" appearance. These disorders cause problems with muscle coordination and thinking. They tend to progress rapidly and usually cause death within a few months to a few years.
