The Arctic topic includes research on the health of Arctic populations as well as biomedical research related to the Arctic environment. The Arctic boundary is defined by the Arctic Research and Policy Act. The region within the Arctic boundary includes all U.S. and international territories north of the Arctic Circle, as well as all contiguous seas and the Aleutian chain.

Arctic health research includes identifying, preventing, and responding to existing and emerging infectious diseases; studying exposure to environmental contaminants; and studying water and food quality and availability. Work in this region is done in collaboration with Tribal members, public health organizations, and other local stakeholders.
