Clinical & Translational Research

The Clinical and Translational Research area includes extramural and intramural clinical research, clinical trials and supportive activities, gene therapy clinical trials, health services, and translational research. Clinical research refers to research conducted with human participants or research on the causes and consequences of disease in human populations involving material of human origin (such as tissue specimens and cognitive phenomena) for which an investigator or colleague directly interacts with human participants. Translational research transforms observations from the clinic, laboratory, and community into interventions that improve the health of individuals and the public — from diagnostics and therapeutics to medical procedures and behavioral changes.
