Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD)
The Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) topic includes research on the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of FTD, a dementia characterized by degeneration in the frontal and/or temporal lobes of the brain.
FTD, the most common dementia among those younger than 60, often occurs along with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
When neurons in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain suffer damage and die, the lobes atrophy, causing the set of symptoms associated with FTD. Symptoms include trouble communicating, emotional dysregulation, and difficulty walking, among other difficulties. There is no cure for FTD and no current treatment other than support.
