Urologic Diseases

The Urologic Diseases topic includes research on the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases and conditions that affect the urinary tract and male genital tract. Diseases covered within this topic include interstitial cystitis, penile diseases, prostate disease, urinary incontinence, and urinary infection. Because of anatomical differences, some urologic diseases are more common in women, while others are more common in men.

Interstitial cystitis is a chronic condition that can cause painful urinary symptoms, such as bladder and pelvic pain. Penile diseases include Peyronie’s disease, or penile curvature, erectile dysfunction, and penile cancer. Urinary incontinence is the accidental leaking or loss of urine from the bladder. Bladder infections are the most common type of urinary tract infections, which also include urethra and kidney infections.
