Violence Against Women

Research Areas

The Violence Against Women topic includes research on the causes, prevention, and outcomes of physical and psychological violence directed toward women of any age.

Violence against women is a common but preventable cause of severe long-term problems for women and their families. It has been linked to many health conditions, including chronic pain, asthma, immune system disorders, migraine, heart problems, sexually transmitted infections, depression, and sleep disturbances, among many others.

Violence and abuse can also impact a woman’s ability to earn a living, her access to safe housing, her relationships with family and friends, and her children’s health and well-being.
